Kicking off me free mini series on How to Decorate With Seasonal Colours, today I’m looking at the first of my spring colours – Cherry Blossom Pink. Who doesn’t love spring? To me it’s the most optimistic, happy season, full of promise after the cold winter months. Having been surrounded by cool whites and greys (and muddy browns) for so long it’s such a joy when spring arrives with a riot of sugar pink blossom against a fresh blue sky. The Japanese even devote an entire festival to it. There’s something very refreshing about the combination of soft pink and white too – throw in a dash of sky blue or juicy green to balance it out and pair it with lots of natural textures and weathered wood and you’ve got a guaranteed feel-good scheme. If that doesn’t put you in a happy mood, nothing will.

How to use it:
Heap up the blossom
This room is so spring-like I can almost smell the cherry blossom and freshly cut grass drifting in through that window… The owners have mirrored the effect of spring blossom against a blue sky by draping the windows in soft floral linens against a light blue / grey wall colour. If this room makes you feel overwhelmingly happy, you’re a spring person.
Add light, natural wood tones
Natural textures are key for this look; light wooden flooring and furniture are the perfect foil for soft spring colours.
Team pink, white and grey
Here’s how it’s done. Blossom pink linen bedding, weathered wood, lots of white and grey mixed in and a vase of fresh garden flowers by the bed. All the spring essentials.
Choose light reflecting textures
I have this blush pink velvet eiderdown on my bed at home and it brings a little bit of spring into the room all year round. Mixed with whites, grey and a little hit of fresh greenery it makes for a soothing, pretty scheme.
Bring some blossom in!
Sounds obvious, but if Spring is your thing then bring it inside (apologies for the awful and unintentional rhyme) and cover every available surface with branches of blossom and sprigs of fresh greenery.
Team with whitewashed wooden panelling
This image by Cabbages and Roses is one of the most popular on my social media channels and it’s easy to see why – it’s masterclass in relaxed spring colours and styling. The natural wood, whitewashed walls, the burst of pink in the floral patterned cushions and the soft grey lighting to temper it all down and add a little industrial edge = spring perfection.
